Andrew Another one you could try for your balance (if you’ve not already) is stepping on and off a cushion. Progressing to 2 cushions if you want.
Or a balance ball

Stepping on and off it. Trying to balance on it, with support if needed. Eventually looking and moving around it whilst still trying to maintain balance.
Andrew Stairs.
[Concentrating solely on ascent and descent of the stairs. Now I can do it without touching the bannisters, but previously it was too dangerous. I have tried it at speed only to do an unwanted and potentially embarrassing nose-dive! ]
Can I strongly advice that you never descend a staircase without holding onto a banister, not even to test your progress. It’s really not worth the risk! We don’t recover as quickly with age and should you so much as badly sprain or break an ankle, will set back your stroke recovery, undoing a lot of the hard work and progress you have again.
This comes from one knows, and I WAS holding onto the bannister when I did this, could have been a lot worse if I hadn’t.
This was a year before my stroke.

Just keep a tight hold of the bannister 😉
