Imagine your CPSP impacted brain is the equivalent of an army base in enemy territory.
You have been told to expect an attack any minute, at any point in the day. The brain is on full alert, it’s tiring work being hyper vigilant for so long. All ready for fight or flight.
So any loud noise (sound goes through the thalamus as do 6 of the 7 senses), a bright light, an unexpected touch, something cold. The equivalent of a soldier in that army base hearing a snapped twig in the dark. There is no space for rationale thought, this is the height of perceived danger, the caveman/cavewoman is in charge here, the critical brain is mired in fog. This is pure instinct in charge. You might as well have spotted a hungry lion in your room.
How is it possible to slow the brain running at full pelt and create the space ? Relaxing, warmth, sleep, comedy, general distraction and the imaginary foot will eventually come off the accelerator.
