Nige in the beginning straight away after stroke the hypersensitivity was present, the OT suggested sticking hand in bowl of rice - it was horrendous! I did it twice I think and hated her for it 𤣠I remember when the cpsp had started around 1-2months in (and sensitivity still there) 1 morning I was in a lot of pain and crying, I was supposed to be getting up for work but the tears hit my hand and even that just sent a pain like the electric shock you described - I was late forwork that day š.
I always wear gloves, partly for adding warmth for cpsp, but also to avoid the sudden pain of touching something and it hurting due to sensitivity.
Like you getting dressed, holding cutlery, anything really that isnāt truly soft has been painful to touch, itās been 9 years and Iāve gradually got used to putting up with/accepting the pain of the sensitivity and cpsp. Making jewellery it particularly painful which is why I have to limit myself to doing tasks and sometimes I just canāt do it (thatās usually because of cpsp).
However, I know that on 1st April I had my hair cut (having my hair washed is painful on left-sided due to sensitivity) and it was really painful that day, but my next appt 6th May was nowhere near as painful, which lead me to think actually my hand is much less sensitive too (massage is the only thing I can put it down to unless itās just decided to calm down now on its own after so bloody long). I started massage in January, but we were more focused on migraines initially, she started touching my hands in March and now 4 sessions on from that Iāve started noticing a change - just in the hypersensitivity I want to add, not in cpsp or feeling (I still canāt feel things properly on my leftside) but itās a massive positive!
Crickey! Sorry that was so long-winded.
