Low and no alcohol drinks

Once upon a time there was a very popular thread under the above title and when they threw me out it got deleted 🙁

So let’s recreate it 🙂

Guinness 0% is palatable

Asda do Bavarian 0% Which I think is about the best

Lucky strike

I have never found a wine that qualified even remotely as an honest description when labelled “alcohol free wine” they’re all horridly corrupted grape juice

Simon Lucky Strike is a cigarette brand, I used to smoke them when I was in my mid-twenties. As for booze, low to no. Drop Bear do an excellent zero percent alcohol stout, you wouldn’t know the difference. I stumbled on it, thinking was regular stout, after half an hour I got bored and looked at the can and saw it was zero. It’s delicious.

I like Heineken 0.0 and Becks blue 🍻. Not tried any 0% spirits or wine because I’d rather just not drink it and risk a glass of wine or have an interesting soft drink instead - appletiser or J2O watermelon spritz are my go-to drinks 😄. Oh! I forgot - my nephew gave me a Peroni 0% beer last summer which I liked.

Ruthy I agree, the Heineken 0% is really good! I do drink a bit of alcohol but this and Guinness are 2 of the best no alcohol I’ve had.

I used to love beer and cider pre stroke. Not drinking loads of it but trying as many different ones as I could. Finding a cider farm in Devon, Dorset or Cornwall, 2 or 3 2.5L kept in the fridge was just superb but those days are gone it seems.
So I have carried that exploration idea on but with Alcohol free. Everyone will be different but for me
Heineken - bit bland
Peroni - Nice
Asahi - yeh like this
Ghost ship - ok, bit fizzy but no where near the alcohol version
Lucky Saint - ok, average I guess
San Miguel - yeh it’s ok. Hints of alcohol version

Hazy Jane, it’s ok, not my fav.
Punk IPA, yeh pretty decent
Lost, probably one of the better layers
Wingman, didnt like 1st can but grown on me
Elvis, bit worried about the grapefruit so can’t enjoy

Sainsbury’s medium dry cider. By far the best A/F cider I have found. Really nice. Everything else is pretty poor by comparison. Tastes like alcohol bottled cider which seems rare. It will never have the taste of a flat single variety cider but beggars etc

St Peters without gold was one of my favourites but has now been surpassed.

My top ones
Infinite. Best AF for me in cans, often £4 for 4. Really pretty decent.

Overall winner by some distance
Shipyard, I liked the original so perhaps no surprise but I do like this. A lot of the poorer AF beers seem like very fizzy flavoured water. Plenty of taste here.
4 for the price of 3 via morrisons. If I could only drink one, this would be it

Historically Kingston Black cider from the cider shop in Weymouth was the best cider I have ever tasted. No idea of strength but the taste, wow.
My favourite IPA was Mosaic from Adnams.
Never liked Stout so not tried Guinness AF but almost everyone posts how good it is.

Pando how do they end up up with salt being in cider ? I am guessing but presumably they don’t have to declare every item included in making it, a bit like not having to declare beer having fish waste to clear it.
Looks like it’s made by westons who do make a nice drop.

Pando The Waitrose 1% cider is pretty decent. I can certainly drink one with no ill-effects. Not at all dry. If anything, there is a sweetness about it, but it definitely hits the spot.

I’ve had a cerebellum issue so alcohol is just about off the cards these days. The effects of just one or two standard drinks can be felt with my wobbliness the following day, and it’s definitely not drunkeness! Sometimes two days are affected.

I really miss the taste of a decent whisky, even cask strength. One evening a few months back I had five. It was way way too much. but did I laugh! and it was very tricky getting to the bedroom afterwards. Do I say that it was worth doing it the once? So happy though…

I have tried quite a few of the already-mentioned AF brews and I am inclined to agree with the views. But my sons occasionally visit Bruges at least to stock up of the local beers such as Quaremont, Zot, Delirium Tremens, Afligem. All now have their AF equivalent, and I have these in the garage. Really nice too, and tasting quite similar to the alcoholic version. AF brews in general vary hugely in their calorific content, if that is a consideration.

2 recommendations for different Waitrose ciders is pretty impressive. Might ask Mrs P to purchase so we can do a taste test challenge.

Ingo66 To be honest I have steered clear of the 0% lagers because I feared that they, like 0% red wine and a 0% gin, had no effective taste or bite. But I’ll pick up some Heineken the next time I’m in Asda. The Guinness is very good and I’m definitely with you on this one!

@“Rups” I have found I often don’t know the difference in something If I don’t know ahead of time. So even decaffeinated coffee works for me until I get a headache from lack of caffeine quite some time later!
