Research interests
We study regulation of cellular excitability focusing specifically on ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. Currently the main focus of the group is the regulation of excitability of peripheral pain-sensing (nociceptive) neurones in relation to pain signalling. We investigate the regulation of ion channels that control or influence excitability and synaptic transmission of nociceptors e.g. GABAA, KCNQ (M-type) channels, Ca2+-activated Cl- channels, sensory TRP channels and voltage-gated Ca2+ channels.

Our group is also interested in the modulation of different neuronal ion channels by G protein coupled receptors (GPSRs) and in GPCR signalling networks of sensory neurones. Another project is aimed at the investigation of the transcriptional regulation of neuronal ion channels in chronic pain states

I am a neuroscientist; my current research is focused on the understanding of cellular, molecular and genetic mechanisms of pain. Other interests include ion channel physiology and pharmacology; neuronal communication and intracellular signalling. I am also looking for novel drug targets for treatment of pain and other neurological disorders.

@Simon @Nige did either of you apply to this at all. I’ve only just seen it - I’m so far behind 😱. I hadn’t set up my app notifications🤦‍♀️. Anyway, I just wondered as I thought I might get in touch, although I didn’t know what the heck was going on half way through the text with G neuro whatevers etc…🤣
